Students are bullied in schools every day, often times with severe consequences to the students. This workshop, presentated by Dora Dome Esq., will review best practice strategies to understand, track and prevent bullying in schools. It will also provide strategies to effectively intervene when bullying is observed. Additionally, this presentation will discuss both federal and state anti-discrimination law requirements and provide guidance and clarity regarding the response required by a district to ensure compliance with both sets of laws and to minimize the likelihood of the Office for Civil Rights finding a compliance violation. Lastly, this session will discuss the common objectives of investigations, investigative procedures specific to discriminatory harassment complaints, and review the Uniform Complaint Procedures, which governs such complaints. The participants will have an opportunity to test their knowledge by working through various scenarios.
