This series will provide support for transitional kindergarten teachers and administrators to strengthen their repertoire of skills, providing academically rich classroom environments that simultaneously address social-emotional developmental needs of students with an emphasis on supporting English learners. Sessions are structured to provide two hours of on-site workshops paired with two hours of research and reflection. In addition, participants will attend a one-day facilitated visit to a model transitional kindergarten classroom in a select Riverside County district. Topics of the series include: social-emotional development, positive behavior supports, cross-content literacy, mathematics, English language development, instructional planning, and assessments. Participants will build support networks as they share experiences, artifacts, and reflections pertaining to current research and policy.
Session 1- Classroom Management: Positive Behavior Supports and Academically Rich Environments
Session 2- Language and Literacy: Designated and Integrated ELD
Session 3- Mathematical Practices: Rigor Through Hands-on Learning
Session 4- Transitional Kindergarten Lab (Guided Site Visit) and Individualized Planning
Session 5- Culminating Reflection: Sharing Artifacts and Applying Key Learning to Planning for 2016-2017
