Structured Teaching: Structuring the Learning Environment for Individual Success (SCATC)

This course offers a 2-day training based on the principles of the Division TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children). Focus will include individuals of all ages and skill levels. TEACCH uses structured learning to emphasize the development of skills through the use of physical structure within environments, visual prompts or cues, and work systems, while capitalizing on visual processing strengths of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Outcomes
Participants will learn information regarding characteristics of autism, structured teaching methods, physical structure of the learning environment, individualized daily schedules, and work/activity systems to assist students in independently completing tasks in academic areas, self-help for daily living and play skills. Participants will have the opportunity to “make-and-take” visually structured materials.
