The Family Engagement Certification Program is comprised of two levels and each level consists of two classes that provides participants with the foundational knowledge and understanding to build sustainable and effective family engagement to positively impact student success. Participants will develop knowledge and skills to apply research-based strategies from the Dr. Joyce L. Epstein Framework for School, Family, and Community Partnerships. Participants will develop familiarity with the context of family engagement within California and will include an overview of California State and federal requirements. Attendance at all classes in both levels are required to receive a Family Engagement Certification from UCR. The content covered in Level I “Leadership Enhancement for School, Family, and Community Partnerships” include establishing Action Teams for Partnerships and utilizing an Action Plan that focus on goals as indicated in the SPSA and LCAP, strategic planning, an introduction to methods of evaluating family engagement efforts, and working with multicultural families that include district and site parent advisory councils. The content covered in Level II “Connecting the Pieces” includes an in depth look at evaluating family engagement, strategic keys to engaging families of secondary students, district leadership to support site level Action Teams, defining parent liaison roles, and tips on how to inspire volunteers and cultivating family engagement.
