This workshop, presented by Leticia Saldana, MSN, RN, PHN, Coordinator of Health Services, Student Programs and Services, aims to provide unlicensed personnel with a better understanding of the school nurse role, and will provide strategies for running an efficient health office.  School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students.  School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development, promote health and safety, intervene with actual and potential health problems, and collaborate with others to create a safe and healthy educational environment.  One of the changes in health care delivery over the past several years has been the increasing use of unlicensed care givers to perform nursing tasks in the school setting, which had previously been performed by licensed nurses.  Assignment of nursing care to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP), is a complex legal and clinical issue in any setting, and is especially challenging in schools.
