This 18-hour workshop series is intended for middle school teachers as an introduction to the CSU Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC) for grades six, seven, and eight. The workshops are generally three days scheduled over several months, aligned with the California Standards for English language arts and literacy, the course emphasizes the in-depth study of expository, analytical, and argumentative reading and writing.

During this three-day course, teachers will:
- Understand the ways in which ERWC methodology and materials are aligned to the California Standards.
- Learn how to integrate the middle school modules as part of their own course curriculum.
- Learn to engage students in building the critical literacy skills they need to succeed in college and careers.
- Acquire knowledge of what it means to read and write rhetorically and how this approach promotes career and collegereadiness at the middle school level.
The three-day course includes:
- Access to ERWC materials for grades six, seven, and eight.
- Theoretical understanding of ERWC.
- Module outlines for teachers and students.
- Strategies for using course materials.
