This three-day workshop will focus on the progression of the 12 problem types of addition and subtraction in grades TK-2 through hands-on and minds-on tasks. Conceptual understanding and application through problem solving of these concepts will be an emphasis as the expectations of the Common Core content standards for addition and subtraction are different than those outlined in the 1997 standards. The new Smarter Balanced assessments will assess students’ understanding, communication, and application of these concepts. The Standards for Mathematical Practice will be an integral part of the three days.
