Event Date 12/10/2019
Parent involvement and buy-in regarding attendance is key to student success. Meeting with parents to discuss these issues can present challenges. In this workshop, presented by Amir Alavi (Deputy District Attorney, Riverside County, Crime Prevention Unit and Countywide SARB Coordinator and Prosecutor) and Susan Levine, Ed.D., (Director II, Pupil and Administrative Services, RCOE), participants will learn strategies to conduct positive parent meetings regarding student attendance. Learn how to make this contact personal and positive, and include an offer to assist in addressing barriers and providing connections to appropriate supports. The creation of a culture of positive attendance and how school leadership is central to prevention in the SARB process will also be explored.
